Vector: a quantity that has both size and direction.
Expanse: a large, open area of land, water, sky, or space.
It is not a virtual world but rather a virtual environment system taking full advantage of cloud computing and cloud hosting technologies as-well-as in viewer seed generated environment. Rather than the environment being loaded from a server, it is actually generated in the game client itself and then changes to the environment by players is saved to the service as an exclusion table which gets loaded in just as terrain is loaded in before the player gets to it. This includes terrain chunks, trees, rocks, ferns, grass, you name it.
Player contributed scene objects (things you spawn out) are also loaded in and unloaded based on the players position in the environment and after moving more than 768 meters away those objects are entirely unloaded from memory and will be loaded back in once reaching a defined distance (256 meters by default).
You can think of Vector Expanse as being like a virtual world meets Minecraft and Portal to help illustrate the idea behind it.

they didn't want to hire me,
